Get to know ... Frederick C. Lubs
Senior Pastor of Calvary since February 15, 2003. He was ordained into the ministry of Word and Sacrament in June of 1976. A native of LaPorte , Indiana , Pastor Lubs served three congregations in the Midwest prior to coming to Calvary . Married to Ruth in 1970, the Lubs' have two adult sons who live in Iowa
with their wives and families. Pastor and Ruth enjoy traveling, music, golf, and the ocean.
Pastor Lubs' education includes a BS in Industrial Management from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana; a Master of Divinity from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago; and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. He has an ongoing commitment to continuing education and leadership development.
Since coming to Calvary , Pastor Lubs has been intentional about focusing on the congregation's four identified areas of emphasis in ministry:
- Worship and Music
- Youth and Family
- Evangelism
- Facilities
These continue to be priorities in the mutual ministry of both pastor and congregation. It has been a goal of his to help build a climate of hospitality and welcome for those who seek to share the spirit of Christ through the mission and ministry of Calvary Lutheran Church.
"Worship and the faithful expression of Christian beliefs are very personal matters, but they are not private. The New Testament does not speak of Christianity in isolation, but rather it is always expressed in the midst of a community."
These words testify to Pastor Lubs' desire to strengthen and support congregational life as it is embodied in the Calvary family. His vision of Christian community is one where God's people gather around Word and Sacrament in the presence of God for worship, learning, healing, forgiveness, and encouragement. Spiritually equipped and mutually strengthened, they are then sent out to bear the love of Jesus to the world. Calvary is in the process of becoming that faith-full family that God has called us to be.
Pastor Lubs conducts quarterly classes for those who are interested in learning more about Christian discipleship, the basics of the Christian faith, the Lutheran tradition, and the ministry of Calvary Lutheran Church. Inquirers, visitors, members, and friends are all welcome to attend.
