Our Church Today

Calvary Lutheran Church is located on a lovely 2.24 acre, multi-level site approximately 3/4 mile from the Pacific Ocean. Our facilities include separate buildings consisting of the Sanctuary, Education Building, Fellowship Hall, Youth Center and Offices, centered on an open courtyard organized to maximize interaction and fellowship among our members and visitors. The stepped outdoor seating, two parking lots and a children’s playground complete our church home.

The Sanctuary, which seats between 400 to 450, is often used for special concerts and performances that are invitations to the community to experience Calvary. At the front of the Choir loft, the 7 foot grand piano soars with sound, as our Minister of Music beckons all to worship with spirited and inspirational music. The Adult Choir, which often numbers more than 60 voices, proudly stands while singing their praises to the Lord.

The lower floor of the Sanctuary is home to three classrooms, a library and two multi-purpose ’Gathering’ rooms. The Education Building holds five more classrooms for grades K-6, a Nursery which is fully staffed during the Sunday morning services and Education Hour, plus a large storage room, janitors’ room, and restrooms. The recently remodeled Youth Center provides additional space for teen classes and activities, and is also often used for Confirmation classes.

The Fellowship Hall is a bright, multi-purpose room with tables and chairs to seat 110. There is another piano for musical needs. A serving window provides easy access to the adjacent commercial-grade kitchen. Cooking facilities include an 8-burner range, multiple sinks, a large commercial refrigerator and freezer, dishwasher, pantry, and plenty of counter space. The kitchen also has a serving window to the large outside patio where members and friends can enjoy followship and lively conversations.

The Office building includes an entry area with a large counter opening to the Staff’s office space, a pleasant office with a meeting area for use by the Senior Pastor, a smaller office for the Office Manager, copier/activity room with storage, and a restroom.

Calvary Lutheran Church is in a very special and unique environment with a varied and progressive community to serve. It is located on the borders of Del Mar, the City of San Diego and the City of Solana Beach. This location also serves the Carmel Valley and Fairbanks Ranch growth centers, Rancho Santa Fe with its quiet lifestyle, and the beach communities to the north and south. Strong worship traditions have been established at Calvary and these traditions will be preserved and continued in the future. These traditions define what Calvary really is - a friendly, family-oriented, music-oriented congregation of believers.
