Music is an Intergal Part of Life at Calvary

The Biblical admonition to "sing to the Lord"
forms an essential element of Christian worship, especially for
Lutherans. Luther advocated using the language and music of the
people in sung and spoken parts of the Mass, and his followers
became known as the "singing Lutherans" because of frequent and
enthusiastic hymn singing at their services. Choral music, quite
naturally, remains important to Lutherans.
Calvary’s Adult
Choir adds to the praise of God and proclamation of the Word in
our worship experience. The 50-member Choir sings on most
Sundays at both services. Open to any persons who love to sing
(of high school age and up), the Choir practices Wednesday
nights from 7:30 to 9 pm during the months of September-June.
(Note that this is immediately following the
Wonderful Wednesday Supper).
The Choir inspires us with music from a wide variety of
Christian choral traditions in America and throughout the world.
Anthems are often specially written and/or arranged by Stan
Beard. Highlights of each season include church holidays such as
Christmas and Easter. One of the most widely acclaimed events is
Calvary’s Christmas Concert, with four performances in
December. You can also enjoy another Calvary tradition on
Easter Sunday, when all worshippers who are familiar with
the Hallelujah Chorus are invited to sing with the Choir.
While music is the catalyst, Christian fellowship and fun are
the result of the Choir’s time together. At practice, while we
work hard, we also experience the laughter, camaraderie and
caring that comes in small group ministry. Nowhere is this more
evident than at the Choir’s annual weekend retreat, usually held
in November, to focus on intensive practice for the
Christmas Concert while also sharing other fun activities
together.
If you are interested in joining the Calvary Adult Choir,
speak to Stan Beard, Director, or one of the choir members.
