Our Easter Week Musical Traditions

For Christ died
for sins once for all, the righteous for the
unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put
to death in the body but made alive by the
Spirit ...
Peter 3:18
The Resurrection of our Lord serves as
inspiration for glorious musical offerings.
In what has become something of a tradition
at Calvary, our Adult Choir tells the
Passion Story of Holy Week in a musical
setting. Rodger Strader’s powerful
cantata "Then Came Sunday" is presented on
Palm Sunday at both the Worship Services.
Easter Sunday services are filled with
joyous musical celebration. Guest artists
often join with the choirs in proclaiming the
Risen Lord. Come lend your voice to those of
Calvary’s Choir in singing the Hallelujah
Chorus from Handel’s Messiah. This most
untraditional tradition is a highlight not to
be missed.
...then came Sunday
An Easter Musical
by Rodger Strader
Arranged by Bob Krogstad
Performed by the Calvary Lutheran Church
Choir
Directed by Stanley G. Beard
As we approach Holy Week, we
anxiously anticipate Easter morning and the
celebration of the Risen Lord. On Palm
Sunday, the Calvary Lutheran Church Choir
will tell the story of the Passion of Jesus
Christ, chorally. This story covers a
relatively short period of time ... seven
days...
...from Jesus’ triumphant
entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday...
...to the Last Supper in the upper room...
...to the Garden of Gethsemane...
... through His trial...
...and crucifixion...
...and death...
...and finally to His resurrection.
It is our hope that this
presentation sets the tone of your week as
well as your entire life by remembering what
Jesus Christ did for all people, He died for
our sins and rose again ... Because He
Loves Us So!
When Jesus had
finished praying, He came to His sleeping
disciples and said, "The hour has come!
Behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the
hands of sinners. Arise! Let us be going.
The one who betrays Me is at hand."-
Matthew 26:46
After
they crucified Him, they put up above His
head the charge against Him which read, "This
is Jesus, the King of the Jews!" And those
who passed by wagged their heads at Him, and
hurled abuse.- Matthew 27: 35, 37, 39
When the
Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary,
the mother of James, and Salome, brought
spices, that they might come and anoint Him.
And very early on the first day of the week,
they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.
And they said to one another, "Who will roll
away the stone for us from the entrance of
the tomb?" Looking up, they saw that the
stone had been rolled away. And entering the
tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the
right, wearing a white robe; and they were
amazed. And he said to them, "Do not be
amazed; you are looking for Jesus the
Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen;
He is not here; behold, here is the place
where they laid Him. But go, tell His
disciples and Peter. He is going before you
into Galilee: there you will see Him, just
as He had said to you."- Mark 16: 1 -7
