There are many ways to be involved with Worship
Worship services at Calvary are inspiring and
fulfilling, facilitated not only by our talented pastoral staff
but also by church members. Volunteers of all ages from the
congregation can serve in numerous roles, and are always
appreciated.
Lay Associates
Being a Lay Associate is a rewarding way to experience and be
involved with Calvary’s worship leadership. These volunteers
serve as assisting ministers in Sunday worship by reading
scriptures, leading prayer and helping with communion.
Associates are selected on an annual basis during the month of
January, and are asked to serve for a 12-month tenure and lead
approximately 3 services per month. Each
year’s new team of Lay Associates occurs with the beginning of
the Advent season. An orientation is provided
to teach them about their responsibilities, and they also meet
occasionally to coordinate schedules and share experiences.
Calvary has experienced Lay Associate alumni who are always
willing to provide assistance as needed.
Ushers
Participating in the Usher Program at Calvary is a wonderful
avenue to meet other people with whom you worship. Ushers
welcome worshipers as they enter the Sanctuary, hand out
bulletins, and offer special handouts containing children’s
activities to interested youth. Ushers collect the offering, do
a count of the number of worshipers, direct worshipers to Holy
Communion, and collect bulletins after the service. They also
straighten up the church for the next service, and transfer the
offering contents to a secured location. It is also good to know
that ushers are in charge of the facility during the worship
service in case of any special needs.
Calvary’s Usher program involves many members on a rotating
schedule of approximately 12 months. When you are asked to
participate, please do so with a willing heart.
Acolytes
Calvary welcomes children in grades 5-8 to serve as Acolytes.
These young volunteers assist the pastor with the worship
ceremony by lighting the candles and assisting with communion,
baptisms and offerings. They attend a brief class to explain
their role and serve in one service every other month. Serving
as an Acolyte is an excellent opportunity for the Church’s youth
to become involved with Christian worship, and progress towards
becoming a confirmed Calvary member.
Communion Stewards (Altar Guild)
With their preparation of the Lord’s Table, communion
stewards carry out an important function for our worship.
Stewards prepare the meal for Communion before all services,
perform the necessary clean-up, and care for the communion
linens. Communion stewards are often needed for this vital role;
please call Linda Lysne at 760-753-8698 if you are interested in
participating.
Sanctuary Stewards
Sanctuary Stewards are an essential part of
providing for an optimal worship experience. Volunteers ensure that
the pew racks are fully stocked and in order prior to the weekly
worship services or special event. The responsibilities require
approximately 1 hour per week.
Wedding Coordinators
The Pastor and Worship Team have
set forth certain policies and procedures for weddings
to ensure each wedding celebrated at Calvary is
conducted in accordance with the rites of the Church
and reflects the Church’s faith and teaching about
Christian marriage, home, and family.
A Calvary Wedding Coordinator is
appointed to each wedding to oversee all activities
associated with the service in accordance with these
guidelines. To volunteer or for more
information, please contact the church office at 858-755-2855.
