Participate in Worship
The Worship and Music Team is responsible for all the lay aspects of the worship service. This includes the acolytes, altar guild, flowers, greeters, lay associates, music, and ushers. Each of their duties is described as follows:
Acolytes are Calvary youth, fifth grade and above, who light the altar candles and aid the Pastor during the church service. The coordinator of the program identifies, oversees the training, and schedules the youth who are involved.
The Altar Guild volunteers are responsible for preparing the sanctuary for services. Among their responsibilities are the set-up of the altar, candles, and communion supplies for each service. They also oversee seasonal altar needs during Easter week and at Christmas.
Flowers may be ordered by church members for Sunday services as well as for special holiday services. The orders are placed by a member of the Worship Team from a local nursery as requested.
Greeters welcome visitors and answer any questions they may have about the service and the congregation. They introduce them to church members, invite them to the coffee hour following the service, and may write a note to them later in the week.
Lay Associates assist the pastor during the service by reading Bible passages, leading prayers, assisting with the liturgy, participating in the distribution of communion, and helping with baptisms.
Ushers greet worshipers, distribute programs, collect the offering and direct participants to communion.
