Vacation Bible School
Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus
July 9-13, 2018
9 am - 12:30 pm
Join us for Vacation Bible School, Shipwrecked, where kids embark on the best week of the summer! Shipwrecked VBS is for those age three by July 1, 2018 (and potty-trained) through entering fifth grade.
At Shipwrecked VBS, kids discover how Jesus rescues us through life's storms. Shipwrecked is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Sciency-Fun Gizmos™, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the standout activities that help faith flow into real life. (Since everything is hands-on, kids might get a little messy. Be sure to send them in play clothes and safe shoes.) Plus, we’ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life—something we call God Sightings. Get ready to hear that phrase a lot!
Your kids will also participate in a hands-on mission project, through a program called Operation Kid-to-Kid™, that will provide seeds for families in Haiti to grow food.
Parents, grandparents, and friends are invited to join us at Sail Away Sendoff for each day at noon, a daily exploration of our Jesus’ rescue!
VBS Outreach--extending helping hands across the sea
This year, the participants in Shipwrecked Vacation Bible School will be participating in two service projects. You are invited to get involved as well!
Help for Haiti. Years of drought, punishing hurricanes, and decades of deforestation have taken a toll on Haiti’s soil. As a result, parents struggle to grow enough food for their families. Entire communities live hand-to-mouth, unsure of how to produce sustainable, adequate food sources. Through Operation Kid-to-Kid working with World Vision, our goal is to provide Haitian families with drought-tolerant seeds—enough to grow food for the entire family, with additional crops to sell in community markets. Student donations also will help farmers learn sustainable farming practices, contribute toward reforestation, and help nourish entire communities for years to come! A $10 gift provides seeds that can grow into food that will feed a child for an entire year. And any donation makes a difference!
Help for Eye Health. We’re collecting new and gently used sunglasses for a team of San Diego doctors working with International Vision Volunteers, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing sight and eye care to the under-served in the world. For more than 20 years, teams of volunteers have given the gift of sight to thousands of adults and children in Africa. The local team will be leaving here at the end of July to go to Zambia and provide an “eye camp,” for those suffering from vision ailments. The most common diagnoses are glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and blindness due to cataracts. In a typical two-week mission, IVV volunteers will treat more than 700 patients and perform nearly 100 surgeries. No patient who can be helped is turned away. As part of the mission, the team hopes to provide sunglasses to help prevent the development of cataracts. Sunglasses for children are especially important since they are hard to obtain in Zambia. If you would like to donate a pair, please bring them to church and place them in the designated basket. Prescription sunglasses are also accepted.
Thank you for your support!!
